A method of remotely modifying a current configuration of an electronic device (602), which affects at least one function of the electronic device. The method determines, at the electronic device, a changed external circumstance, and then transmits an indication of the changed external circumstance, associated with the electronic device, to a remote server. Next, the method receives (604), at the remote server, the indication of the changed external circumstance associated with the electronic device. Additionally, the method determines (610), from a computer database, a modified configuration appropriate to the electronic device, based at least in part on the changed external circumstance (612). The method then transmits (614) the modified configuration from the remote server to the electronic device, and receives (620), at the electronic device, the modified configuration. Finally, the method updates (622) the current configuration of the electronic device with the modified configuration, which affects at least one function of the electronic device.
