PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reinforcing bar binding machine which can realize an excellent binding finish. SOLUTION: A tip of a loop of a wire fed to a nose 6 by a binding wire feed mechanism 1 is held by the clamp plate 28 of a binding wire clamping device 25, and the wire is returned by driving a feed motor 13 of the binding wire feed mechanism 1 in the reverse direction. When the wire is tightly fitted to a reinforcing bar S, the load on a feed motor is increased and the drive current is increased by a predetermined quantity, a control device stops the feed motor. Then, the binding wire clamping device 25 is rotated, and twists the binding wire to bind the reinforcing bar. Since the wire is returned, and the wire length is automatically adjusted to the diameter of the reinforcing bar, the binding-finished condition is uniformed, and the consumption of the wire is reduced.
