DNA sequence (I) that functions as a promoter providing increased expression of any chosen gene in plant seeds, is new. DNA sequence (I) that functions as a promoter providing increased expression of any chosen gene in plant seeds has the structure A-B where A is the USP (unknown seed protein) promoter of Vicia faba, or its fragment with the same properties, and B is an attached DNA sequence from dicotyledonous plants, with maximum length of A plus B 1690 bp. Also included are sequences that differ by one or more base pairs, provided that they hybridize with the original A-B and show promoter activity. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) isolating (I) using a heterologous transposon tagging system; and (2) plants transformed with an expression cassette (EC) that contains (I), gene construct to be expressed and optionally a terminator.
