OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which enables recording and reproduction by a short wavelength laser having a wavelength of 520-690 nm and which is excellent in durability and suitable for high-density high-speed recording.

SOLUTION: The optical recording medium contains a dipyrromethene metal chelate compound of formula (1) [R1-R7denote independently a group mentioned in Specification or a substituent shown by formula (a) (R8denotes a substituted or unsubstituted aryl or heteroaryl group); A denotes a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic ring or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocycle; L1denotes a substituted or unsubstituted residual group that forms a ring together with a carbon atom to which it is bonded and may contain a hetero atom; at least one of R1-R7denotes the substituent shown by formula (a); and M denotes a transition element].
