PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an abnormal image from being formed because image flowing substance produced by the discharge of an electrifying device adhering to the surface of an image carrier in an image forming apparatus where the image carrier is electrified by the electrifying device, an electrostatic latent image formed by exposing the electrified surface of the image carrier is developed to be a visible image as a toner image by a developing device, and the toner image is transferred to transfer material.

SOLUTION: Air is made to flow to the inside of the electrifying device 3 having an electrifying roller 4 and a holding member 21 holding the roller 4 through a filter 39 carrying a polar adsorbent on gas permeable base material, and made to circulate in the axial direction of the image carrier 1.
