<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion compensation fiber which has reduced connection loss, and to provide a method for manufacturing the fiber. <P>SOLUTION: In the dispersion compensation fiber having a core and a clad, the clad has a 1st clad region around the core, a 2nd clad region around a 1st clad layer, and a 3rd clad region around a 2nd clad layer. The core and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd clad regions are doped to generate a refractive index distribution characteristic of the dispersion compensating fiber.
