<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a vehicle transmission in which a continuously variable transmission as a main transmission and a stepped transmission as an auxiliary transmission are connected in series, capable of suppressing excessive durability of the clutch mechanism of the auxiliary transmission and suppressing too high temperatures at the auxiliary transmission due to shifts. <P>SOLUTION: The method of controlling the vehicle transmission includes shifting the main transmission to low speeds when the auxiliary transmission is shifted to high speeds, to input torque to the auxiliary transmission to thereby increase the number of revolutions of the output shaft of the auxiliary transmission; and making a shift at the auxiliary transmission at the time when the number of revolutions equals the number of revolutions of the engine. This enables the clutches of the auxiliary transmission to be made smaller and lighter in weight, while suppressing heating due to clutch actions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
