<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass fiber strand which can not only prevent the abra sion and breakage of the fibers but also has good lamination strength, good heat stability, good hydrolysis stability, low corrosivity at a high humidity, and in the presence of a reactive acid or an alkali, shows low reactivity, and good compatibility with various polymer matrix materials (capable of excluding the necessity of heat washing before lamination). <P>SOLUTION: The glass fiber strand comprises at least one glass fiber having a primary layer of a dried residue of an aqueous sizing composition applied to at least a portion of a surface of the at least one glass fiber, where the aqueous sizing composition comprises: (a) non-hydratable, lamellar, inorganic solid lubricant particles having a hardness value which does not exceed a hardness value of the at least one glass fiber; and (b) a polymeric material, where the aqueous sizing composition is essentially free of glass materials. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
