PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the controllability when a brake is returned in a braking pressure control device to perform the brake assistance in an emergency. SOLUTION: The operation of a brake pedal 10 by a driver is detected by a hydraulic sensor 12. A controller 22 determines whether or not the condition is in an emergency based on the detection signal from the hydraulic sensor 12 and the detection signal from an acceleration sensor 24. In an emergency condition, a boosting mechanism 14 is driven to increase the brake hydraulic pressure to the maximum value. When the driver performs the brake return, the reduction of the brake hydraulic pressure is controlled according to the returning quantity, the gain during the reduction of the brake hydraulic pressure is set to be smaller than the gain during the increase of the brake hydraulic pressure to smoothly reduce the brake hydraulic pressure. Immediately before the stop, the control hydraulic pressure is set to be zero, and the brake characteristic is returned to a normal one. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
