1317591 Motor vehicle transmission; BORGWARNER CORP 15 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 23760/70 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] A transmission 10 has two output shafts 95 (e.g. connected by chains 18 and wheels 15, 16, 19 to vehicle wheels or tracks) each with a planetary gear train 61, 62 having a plurality of friction devices (e.g. brakes, 52, 55) engageable to provide a plurality of drive paths (e.g. forward and reverse ratio) from a common input shaft 70 completed by selected engagement of a clutch 97 on the output shaft. The input shaft 70 may be driven by a belt 12 and have fixed thereto the sun gears 71 of the trains 61, 62. Each of these may include a planet carrier 78 and a ring gear 84, each selectively connected to the shaft 95 by the teeth 104, 105 or 104, 106 of the clutch 97 which has a detent mechanism 98, 100. The brakes.-52, 55 each comprise a band wrapped helically round its drum 110, 84 so that its resilience tends to relax it. Each band is anchored at one end by a pin 115, 117 in the gear-box housing, and connected at the other end via pins 58b and 51 or 54 to one end of a duet 46. Control of the brakes and clutches.-Figs. 2 and 4. The clutches 97 are shown controlled by a common lever 30 pivoting at 31 and connected by a resilient device 34 and a link 35 to a lever 37 co-rotational with an eccentric pin so that forward or reverse movement of the lever 30 causes the clutch 97 splined to the shaft 95 to slide axially engaging the teeth 104 with 105 or 106. Each clutch 97 may have a separate lever 30. The brakes 52, 55 for each shaft 95 are selectively engaged by rocking the appropriate lever 46 connected by a link 45 to a lever 40. The levers 40 and 30 are arranged so that if one of the levers 40 is moved in the same way as the lever 30 its shaft 95 is driven in that direction; if the lever 40 is moved the opposite way it brakes that shaft. Each lever 40 may be moved partially to cause the appropriate brake band to slip. (For Figures see next page) |
