A modular system for deploying and powering a device, such as an electric submergible pumping system, in a well. The modular system includes a plurality of interconnectable segments 38 that each include an outer section of tubing 32 and an internal power cable 34. Each section includes a tubing connector 42 and a power cable connector 80 that permits ready connection of sequential segments when deploying a device or system downhole.
