Method for providing metallic appearance to substrate comprises: (a) applying primer coat(s); (b) drying thoroughly; (c) treatment with an inorganic adhesion promoter; (d) applying a metal layer; (e) heating the coated substrate; and (f) overcoating with protective layer(s), The metal layer applied in step (d) is treated with an inorganic or organometallic adhesion promoter before or after heating in step (e).
