PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable type steering device to vary the steering gear ratio according to the position of a steering wheel. SOLUTION: Operational cables 15 and 16 are spirally wound around an outer circumferential surface of a drive pulley 59 which is connected to and rotated by the steering wheel and an outer circumferential surface of a driven pulley which is connected to and rotated by a steering gear box to steer wheels, and the steering torque input in the steering wheel is transmitted to the steering gear box via the operational cables 15 and 16. The drive pulley 59 has a barrel shape with a center portion in the axial direction of the large diameter and both end portions in the axial direction of the small diameter, and the driven pulley has a spool shape or a drum shape with a center portion in the axial direction of the small diameter and both end portions in the axial direction of the large diameter. The steering gear ratio (the ratio of the steering angle of the steering wheel to the turning angle of the wheels) is changed according to the position of the steering wheel.
