PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce the final adhesion of carrier particles to a latent image carrier in the case of developing an electrostatic latent image by a two- component developing system. SOLUTION: The developing roller 1 has a rotary sleeve 1A and three or more fixed magnets MP to M7, one of which is a main magnetic pole magnet MP. Two fixed magnets M1 and M7 provided on the upstream and the downstream sides of the flow of two-component developer near the magnet MP have a reverse polarity to the magnet MP. In order to reduce the adhesion of the carrier to the latent image carrier at a developing part, the half value width:θP of flux density formed at a developing part by the magnet MP is set to≥18°.
