PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an icicle formation preventive tool for a rain gutter, which reduces its tendency to form icicles from the rain gutter, by allowing a large part of snow fallen from eaves to overrun the existing ordinary rain gutter without being retained in the gutter, and minimizing the cross section of flowing water of snowmelt in the gutter to increase the thawing efficiency of solar heat. SOLUTION: The icicle formation preventive tool is formed of a rod body 3 inserted into the interior of the rain gutter 1 in its longitudinal direction, and has a contour advantageous to forming water flowing slots 8 communicating with a drain hole 7 of the rain gutter 1, at locations between both side surfaces of the rod body 3 and both side walls 5 of the rain gutter 1, and a bottom 2 of the rod body 3 and a bottom wall 6 of the rain gutter 1. The rod body 3 can have a horizontally flat top face 9 and it is positioned in collaboration with the side walls 5 and a funnel 10 of the rain gutter 1. There are also provided a direct joint 13 for linearly connecting the rod bodies 3 together, and a bent joint 14 for connecting the rod bodies 3 together at right angles in a right-angle bent rain gutter.
