PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Al-SiC composite which has a thermal expansion coefficient close to that of a ceramic substrate, high thermal conductivity, and improved strength. SOLUTION: The Al-SiC composite is made from a metal containing aluminum as a main component, in which particles of silicon carbides are dispersed, wherein an iron content in the composite is 2 wt.% or less. In addition, the Al-SiC composite has a coating layer consisting of the metals containing aluminum as the main component, formed on the external surface, wherein the total thickness of the front and back coating layer is 15% or less against the thickness of the Al-SiC composite including the front and back coating layer, on the opposing main face with the largest area.
