<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop a vehicle, when a failure is detected in an automatic transmission and the failed part can not be located, by prohibiting automatic transmission control, and to enable the vehicle to run by locating the failed part after the vehicle stops, and establishing a transmission stage wherein the vehicle can run. <P>SOLUTION: This control device prohibits the automatic transmission control when a failure detection means detects the failure. After the vehicle stops, the device commands establishment of an emergency running low-speed stage whose gear ratio is the smallest in low-speed stages. If the transmission is not neutral after the command, all solenoids are turned off. If the transmission is neutral, a second engagement element is engaged, always engaged when a high-speed stage is established, and all solenoids are turned off to establish an emergency running high-speed stage having the largest gear ratio in the transmission stages where a first engagement element is released. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
