<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal element having high display quality by enhancing alignment quality. <P>SOLUTION: The substrate of the liquid crystal element is provided with a plurality of stripe-shaped electrodes 12 and a plurality of light shielding films 24 on the electrodes and has an insulating film 44 between the electrodes 12 adjacent to each other and a flattening film 34 between the light shielding films 24 adjacent to each other. The level difference of the transparent electrodes, the light shielding part or the like is compensated with resin in a film-forming stage using the resin and in a photolithography stage and flattened and then an alignment controlling film is film-deposited to provide the bright liquid crystal element without any alignment unevenness. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
