PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a plate state discrimination device which is low-cost and is capable of surely discriminating the state of a print plate. SOLUTION: The image recording surface side of the print plate is irradiated with coherent light having a prescribed wavelength by a light source, and the print plate is moved relatively to the optical axis of the coherent light radiated from the light source by a moving means, and reflected light on the image recording surface side to the coherent light radiated from the light source is received in a light reception part at the relative movement by the moving means, and the quantity of the reflected light received in the light reception part is detected by a reflected light quantity detection means. Thus, the quantities of reflected light reflected in a plurality of arbitrary positions of the print plate are detected, and the state of the print plate is discriminated by a discrimination means on the basis of the detection result of the reflected light quantity detection means.
