PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device of high convenience for a user, capable of displaying a background image corresponding to the surrounding environment where a movable body actually travels by a simple processing, without using the map information database storing a number of background images in advance. SOLUTION: This navigation device is provided with a storage means for storing the background image data relating to a plurality of representative surrounding environments, a positional information acquiring means for acquiring the present positional information of the movable body, a control means for specifying a next detailed guide spot where the movable body plans to pass on the basis of the optimum route information obtained on the basis of the present positional information and the route searching processing, estimating the surrounding environment of the next detailed guide spot on the basis of the map information relating to the environment estimation zone determined around the next detailed guide spot, and selecting the background image data corresponding to the estimated surrounding environment as a virtual background image, and a displaying means for creating and displaying a detailed guide image plane on the basis of the virtual background image and the route guide information relating to the next detailed guide spot.
