PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage of a surface to be detected of a permanent magnet 21a forming an encoder 19a when transporting the encoder 19a from a manufacturing factory of the encoder 19a to an assembling factory of a rolling bearing unit with encoder. SOLUTION: The encoder 19a is formed by attaching the permanent magnet 21a to side face of an annular part 23a of a support ring 20a with an L shape section, made of a metal plate. Outside diameter D of a cylindrical part 22a formed on an inner circumferential part of the support ring 20a is smaller than inner diameter R of the permanent magnet 21a in order to outside engagingly fix the encoder 19a on an inner wheel. When transporting the encoder 19, tip part of the cylindrical part 22a is inserted into inner diameter side of the permanent magnet 21a, and tip edge of the cylindrical part 22a does not bump against the surface to be detected of the permanent magnet 21a.
