PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for gas substitution of a can lid in which inert gas is sufficiently substituted for air in a head space. SOLUTION: The device 6 for gas substitution of the can lid to substitute inert gas GN2 for air in a recessed part formed below the can lid 16 comprises a can lid feeder 10 having a lid turret 17 to feed the can lid 16 to a can seamer part 8, a turret cover 18 to cover a part of a can lid carrying passage by the can lid feeder 10, and a substitution gas feed unit to continuously feed inert gas GN2 in the turret cover 18.
