PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ground improvement structure capable of accelerating consolidation settlement and reducing construction period and cost even if a live load such as a fill is not imposed. SOLUTION: An objective range for ground improvement is constituted of a pumping section 21 and a draining section 20. In the draining section, a plurality of drain members 15 are provided so that the upper end does not communicate with the outside air and the lower end reaches a permeable layer below the objective improvement ground. Meanwhile, in the pumping range, a plurality of pumping drain members 16 are provided so that the upper end extends above the objective improvement ground and the lower end reaches the permeable layer. A permeable member 12a and a hollow pipe 12b for leading water from the upper end of the drain member to a specified position are arranged so as to keep contact with the upper end of the pumping drain member, and a sheet member 11 covering air-tightly the upper end of drain members and a water collecting meams is laid, and further, a vacuum pump 17 is installed to communicate with the water collecting means.
