PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient and low-cost method for reducing chromium- containing oxide with gas to be generated reduced. SOLUTION: In this method for reducing chromium-containing oxide, a compact composed of an oxide and C, in which chromium oxide is contained by 5 to 60 mass% is irradiated with microwaves to heat the compact, and a part or the whole of the chromium oxide is reduced by the same treatment.
