PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a cold rolled steel sheet by which its initial rust preventability can be improved without adopting an additional means such as the coating of rust preventing oil. SOLUTION: A steel stock having a composition containing, by mass, 0.010 to 0.034% C, <=0.20% Mn, <=0.10% Si, <=0.02% P, <=0.013% S and 0.01 to 0.10% Al so as to satisfy 7C%+24S%<=0.43% is hot-rolled, is next cold-rolled and is thereafter subjected to continuous annealing in a reducing gas atmosphere containing 0.5 to 10 vol.% hydrogen, and the balance nitrogen.
