The reactor is micromodular. Its chamber has a microstructure (2, 4), formed in a substrate (1) with a transparent, sealing cover (6) and is equipped with an inlet and outlet (3, 5) for reagents and products. Its cross section is preferably 100-500 microns. It has a photo-catalytic surface (8) e.g. comprising TiO2. The photocatalyst(s), e.g. TiO2, are immobilized on the surface of the microstructure using a sol-gel process. The cover is e.g. glass, or an adhesive film. A casing (9, 10) holds modules in recesses also accommodating the inlets and outlets. It has openings to pass light through the modules. It has a base plate and cover, which are e.g. screwed, riveted, clamped or adhered together. To increase conversion, or carry out different reactions simultaneously, many modules are connected in series or parallel. A common light source or individual light sources are employed for illumination.
