A rotating cap opener (11) is provided with three clamping jaws (15, 17, 19) each of which is disposed on a carrier part (45) which is arranged on a base part (23) in such a way that it is radially displaceable. A rotatable spiral guide (29), which cooperates with the carrier part (45), is used to move the clamping jaws (15, 17, 19) towards each other into an inner position (50) an d away from each other into an outer position (60). As a result, covers of different radii can be grasped and opened due to a handle (13) having an enlarged lever arm.
