PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical coupling structure which has higher optical coupling efficiency than that of a conventional technique. SOLUTION: The optical coupling structure has an optical waveguide 2 formed on a substrate 1, a light beam reflecting means which is formed on the substrate 1 and reflects a light beam made incident from above the substrate 1 toward the optical waveguide 2, and a light beam converting means which converges the light beam and is characterized in that a core size on a light bean incidence end surface 8 of the optical waveguide 2 in parallel to the surface of the substrate is larger than a core size on a light beam projection end surface 9 of the optical waveguide 2 in a direction parallel to the surface of the substrate 1.
