<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative image recording material capable of direct recording from digital data of a computer or the like by recording with a solid laser and a semiconductor laser which emit IR and excellent in storage stability, particularly raw stock preservability in the case where it is used as the recording layer of a planographic printing plate. <P>SOLUTION: The image recording material contains an IR absorbent and is capable of recording upon irradiation with IR, wherein a cyanine dye in which at least one of substituents on nitrogen atoms at both ends is selected from the following substituents is used as the IR absorbent; -C(=X)R<SP>1</SP>, -C(=X) NR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>, -CH=CR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>, -C≡CR<SP>6</SP>, -CHR<SP>7</SP>R<SP>8</SP>, -CR<SP>9</SP>R<SP>10</SP>R<SP>11</SP>and -Ar, wherein X is O or S; R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>6</SP>are each H or a ≤20C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; R<SP>7</SP>-R<SP>11</SP>are each a ≤20C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; and Ar is an aromatic group which may have a substituent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
