The invention relates to a rocking mechanism for a seat back. The inventive low-cost, durable mechanism, among other advantages, allows the seat back to be reclined silently and smoothly to different degrees of incline, thereby optimising the isoptic at any point in the auditorium. Said mechanism comprises two bearings with determined levels of resistance and smoothness (with high-resistance casings). The seat back and the seat structure are fixed as one part to the rear of said bearings. The bearing casings form the structure of the body of the bearing by means of tie bolts which are used to adjust the expansion and contraction of the body of the bearing. In this way, the desired degree of incline can be established and blocked perfectly by the user by reclining the seat back using a minimum amount of muscular effort. Moreover, the invention guarantees perfect alignment of the seat backs and ensures an ideal isoptic and level of comfort. In addition, the mechanism is silent when actuated which benefits both the user and the other members of the audience.
