<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switching device capable of using control light having the same wavelength as control object light when controlling passage/ non-passage of the control object light in accordance with incidence/non- incidence of the control light. <P>SOLUTION: The optical switching device is constituted of an optical device which has a surface layer having a refractive index for totally reflecting the control object light and an inner layer having a refractive index higher than that of the surface layer and changing the refractive index in response to incidence of the control light and causes the control object light to tunnel, and the control object light is made incident on the optical device at such angle that it may be totally reflected, and the control object light is totally reflected without being caused tunnel or is caused to tunnel without being totally reflected, in accordance with incidence/non-incidence of the control light. In this constitution, a condition of the angle of incidence of the control object light, which brings about tunneling of light, is changed when the refractive index of the inner layer is changed by incidence of the control light, and thus switching operation is realized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
