PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber unit and an optical fiber discriminating method which can easily discriminate between up transmission lines and down transmission lines by pairs even if optical fibers are inverted or wherever some optical fiber unit is cut. SOLUTION: In the optical fiber unit 10 comprising optical fibers 11 to 18 paired to constitute optical transmission lines, the pairs of optical fibers are regularly arrayed side by side in the circumferential direction of the optical fiber unit 10 and standardized to the same colors or the same colors and the same marks by the pairs, and the arrangement is so standardized that the front-rear position relation of the pairs of optical fibers in the clockwise direction and the position relation of the up and down transmission lines are fixed.
