PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the crater end position of a cast that is continuously cast piece with completely no contact. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method is provided with a means for cooling a cast piece 1, until the surface-layer part of a continuous cast 1 that is subjected to phase transformation, a means for transmitting a traverse wave ultrasonic waves as a transmission signal by an electromagnetic ultrasonic sensor 3 for transmitting signals, for traverse waves that are not in contact with the cast 1 to the cast 1 that is cooled by the cooling means, a means for receiving a signal obtained by allowing the transmission signal to pass through the cast 1 by an electromagnetic ultrasonic sensor 4 for traverse waves, without contact with the case 2, and a means for judging the solidification state of the cast 1, based on a reception signal that is received by the reception means.
