The present invention (Fig.2) provides methods of assessing the level of a subjective symptom in a human subject. The methods involve randomly prompting the subject for his current level of the subjective symptom. Preferably, the methods are used while the subject is undergoing an intervention to try to decrease or ameliorate the level of the symptom.
