A compact optical transmission system for generating optical signals from a plurality of photonic devices in dependence on a plurality of electrical driving signals. The system comprises a signal generating circuit associated with each of the photonic devices for generating a driving signal, a low pass filter associated with each of the signal generating circuits for suppressing frequencies from the driving signal, and an optical transmitter module. The optical transmitter module includes the plurality of photonic devices and an electronic circuit associated with each of the photonic devices, wherein each electronic circuit substantially reshapes the input driving waveform and supplies a reshaped driving signal to its associated photonic device. The photonic devices may be lasers or electroabsorption modulators.
