PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface grinding device which is capable of grinding with high accuracy and can suppress failure. SOLUTION: This surface grinding device 1 is a device for grinding a work to be ground K with a grinding wheel capable of moving in the vertical direction and horizontal rotation, and is provided with a base 15 arranged on a bed, a rotating body 20 arranged below the grinding wheel 13 and rotating around a vertical shaft, a rotating body holding means 30 supported by the base 15 and rotatably holding the rotating body 20, a friction body 33 fixed onto the top face of the rotating body 20 and on which the work to be ground K is loaded, and a rotating body driving means 4 for driving the rotating body 20. As the work to be ground K is rotated by a static frictional force acting between the work to be ground K and the friction body 33 with a grinding force of the grinding wheel 13, there will be no such disadvantage that the work to be ground K floats from an attachment level face or a clamp distortion is generated on the work to be ground K.
