PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitation apparatus and an agitating method for uniformly mixing solid particles with a liquid. SOLUTION: This agitation apparatus 10 comprises a wide agitation blade 3 supported by an agitation shaft 2 at the lowermost stage and a plurality of comb-shaped blades 4, 5 which are arranged successively stepwise in the upper part of the blade 3 and supported by the shaft 2 respectively. The middle comb-shaped blades 4a, 4b are arranged as the blade 4 so that they go ahead of the blade 3 to the rotative direction of the shaft 2 by the angle smaller than 90°and overlap the blade 3. The upper comb-shaped blades 5a, 5b are arranged as the blade 5 so that they go ahead of the blades 4a, 4b adjacent to the lower parts of the blades 5a, 5b to the rotative direction of the shaft 2 by the angle smaller than 90°and overlap the adjacent blades 4a, 4b. The length of each of the blades 5a, 5b is made shorter than that of each of the blades 4a, 4b. The blades 5a, 5b are positioned so that a part of each of them is not projected from the stationary liquid level of the mixed liquid.
