PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a cleaning effect for an ink discharge face without damaging it and to prevent ink colors from mixing at a cleaning time in an inkjet head which discharges ink from ink discharge holes onto a recording medium. SOLUTION: In the method for cleaning a printing head 4 which has an array of ink discharge holes formed for discharging the ink of a plurality of colors, a cleaning roller 7 formed of an elastic material in a cylindrical shape is moved in a longitudinal direction of the ink discharge face 6 in a state while the cleaning roller is kept in touch with the ink discharge face 6 of the printing head, and ink in the ink discharge holes is sucked by a pressure change in the ink discharge holes at a time when an outer circumferential face of the cleaning roller 7 moves in touch with the ink discharge face 6. The cleaning effect for the ink discharge face 6 is thus improved without damaging the same, and at the same time, mixing of ink colors at the cleaning time can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
