PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately adjust dot formation positions at the time of a first half and a second half of reciprocation in two-way printing. SOLUTION: In a printer capable of forming large and small dots of a combination different between the first half and the second half of reciprocation of a head, what is called a Bid adjustment is executed by forming intermediate size dots at both the first half and the second half of the reciprocation. Alternatively, the Bid adjustment is carried out by selecting dots for the first half time and dots for the second half time in accordance with a printing mode and forming these dots. Accordingly, the Bid adjustment can be carried out effectively in a printer which forms dots while changing over waveforms at the first half and the second half reciprocation times of the head.
