Separator comprises a centrifugal drum, a drive unit, and a centrifugal clutch coupled via a gearing system and/or a belt drive with a drive spindle for the drum. The centrifugal clutch has inner and outer ring bodies with an annular gap between them. The inner ring body has grooves on its outer periphery in which a coupling block can be radially moved. A weighted block is between the base of the groove and the coupling block. Separator comprises a centrifugal drum (2), and a drive unit having a motor (4), especially an electromotor, and a centrifugal clutch (7) coupled via a gearing system (8) and/or a belt drive with a drive spindle (3) for the drum. The centrifugal clutch has an inner ring body and an outer ring body with an annular gap between them. The inner ring body has grooves on its outer periphery in which a coupling block can be radially moved. A weighted block is between the base of the groove and the coupling block. Preferred Features: The grooves taper radially outward continuously or discontinuously. The grooves have a T-shape or L-shape cross-section.
