PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide emulsion excellent in reciprocity law characteristics and having high sensitivity and high contrast sensitometry characteristics and to provide a method for preparing the same. SOLUTION: The silver halide emulsion comprises silver halide grains based on silver chloride and further containing silver bromide, wherein when the average silver bromide content of the silver halide grains is represented by Y (mol%),≥68% of all the silver halide grains have a silver bromide content of 0.82 to 1.18×Y (mol%).
