PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel collapsible camera by which time taken to prepare photographing is shortened when an outside case is attached. SOLUTION: The camera is equipped with an outside case detection means for detecting that the outside case is attached to a camera main body, and a lens position detection means for detecting the position of a photographic lens. When the outside case detection means detects that the outside case is attached, the contracting action of a lens barrel associated with the turn-off of a power source is stopped, and the photographic lens is held as it is in a photographing state, whereby the extending action of the lens barrel in the case of turning on the power source again is omitted and photographing preparation time is shortened.
