PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a sufficient cooling after while minimizing the size of a solenoid operated valve itself in a cooling structure for suppressing the degradation of an output due to the heat of the solenoid operated valve. SOLUTION: The solenoid operated valve comprises an armature interlocking with inlet and exhaust valves of an engine, a pair of electromagnets formed with cores having coils inside and arranged on both sides of the armature in the direction of its displacement, and a cooling passage for cooling the electromagnets. The cooling passage is provided adjacent to the coils whereby the coils as heating sources can be directly and actively cooled. Thus, the sufficient cooling effect is achieved by the minimum cooling performance and the enlargement of the solenoid operated valve is minimized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
