PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine thread for a car sheet, exhibiting excellent impact durability after used in sewing the sheet, by using polyester multifilament raw yarn which has high strength and high elongation. SOLUTION: This sewing machine thread is not broken even when an instantaneous impulsive load of≥19.5 J/cm<SP>2</SP>is loaded to the thread, wherein the raw yarn composing the thread has a tensile strength at break of≥4.5 N/cm<SP>2</SP>, an elongation at break of≥28%, and a dry heat shrinkage percentage of≤4.0% at 160°C.
