PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methacrylic resin composition that has optical diffusibility, flame retardancy, high heat resistance and shows reduced liberation of halogen gas on burning and reduced metal corrosion properties. SOLUTION: Monomers mainly containing methyl methacrylate are polymerized in the presence of a polymer mainly composed of methyl methacrylate, a light-diffusing agent, e.g. aluminum hydroxide or titanium oxide and a halogen- free phosphoric acid ester having a proportion of the phosphorus to the molecular weight of≥15%, e.g. trimethyl phosphate or triethyl phosphate to obtain the methacrylic resin composition.
