PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form nitrification granules excellent in strength and sedimentation properties and having a high NH4+-N removing speed by a self-fixing method. SOLUTION: The nitrification granules are formed by continuously bringing sludge containing nitrifying bacteria into contact with an inorganic ammonia- containing aqueous solution in a reaction tank under an ascending flow aerobic condition.
