PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment method which can remove harmful organic components such as dioxins and trichlorobenzene contained in treatment water stably over a long period, and an apparatus for the method. SOLUTION: In the water treatment apparatus and method, when the treatment water is passed through active carbon layers 7a and 7b, the ratio between the volume of pores below 30Åin pore diameter in a prescribed pore diameter distribution curve and the volume of pores at least 30Åin pore diameter is adjusted to be larger in the layer 7b than in the layer 7a. Humic substances in the treatment water are removed by the layer 7a, and the harmful organic components are removed by the layer 7b. In this way, obstruction by the humic substances in the removal of the harmful organic components can be prevented, enabling a high-level water treatment process. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
