<p>Heterocyclic annealed photochromic 2H- and 3H-pyran systems of formula (I) or (II) are new. The photochromic heterocyclic systems have the formula (I) or (II): [Image] [Image] h = a 5- or 6-membered ring containing a heteroatom X which is bonded directly to the naphthalene ring system; B and B' independently : optionally substituted phenyl or naphthyl groups in which the substituents if present are selected from groups Z where Z = OH, 1-5 C alkyl, 1-5 C alkoxy, 1-5 C alkoxy-(1-4 C)-alkyl, phenyl-(1-4 C)-alkyl, (1-6 C)-dialkylamino, piperidino, morpholino and halogen;R 1>-R 4> independently = H, F, Cl, Br, OH, 1-10 C alkyl, 5-7 C cycloalkyl, 1-5 C alkoxy, 1-5 C alkoxy-(1-4 C)-alkyl, phenyl-(1-4 C)-alkyl, phenyl, mono- and disubstituted phenyl, furyl, thienyl, (1-6 C)-dialkylamino, piperidino, pyrrolidino and morpholino, the substituents in the substituted phenyl being selected from groups Z. Independent claims are included covering: (a) A method for producing the compounds (I) and (II) and (b) use of the (I) and (II) for the coloration of plastics, especially in the production of photochromic lenses, spectacles, glazing, etc.</p> |
