An isolated nucleic acid molecule or a functional derivative thereof comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding or complementary to a sequence encoding a protein allergen from a mite, preferably being Blomia tropicalis, or a derivative, homologue or mimetic of the allergen wherein the allergen is selected from Bt11, Bt10 and BtA2 and a polymorphic variant of Bt5; and the use of the nucleic acid molecule comprising a gene encoding Bt11 in the manufacture of a medicament for the prophylacsis or treatment of an allergic condition, such as allergic asthma, atopic dermatitis and/or rhinitis, in a subject.
