ADENOPHORA TRIPHYLLA EXTRACT AND COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME FOR SUPPRESSING OBESITY

PURPOSE: A composition containing, as a main component, an Adenophora triphylla extract having inhibition effects on a carbohydrase enzyme and intestinal absorption of carbohydrate is provided. The composition inhibits the increase of blood glucose level and can be used for the prevention and treatment of obesity. CONSTITUTION: Leaves, roots and stems of Adenophora triphylla(Thunb.)A. DC. var. japonica(Regel) Hara are extracted in water or an organic solvent. For an example, Leaves, roots and stems of Adenophora triphylla are dried, ground and extracted with 10 times of methanol for 12hr, concentrated to remove a solvent and then freeze-dried. The extract exhibits a suppressing effect on obesity at 7 weeks after feeding it to a Sprague-Dawley rat(200-250g).
